RAS Announces IRATA Membership: A New Benchmark for Rope Access in Geotechnical Engineering
Rope Access Solutions (RAS), one of the UK’s fastest‑growing geotechnical rope access contractors, is delighted to announce that we have officially become a member of IRATA International, the world’s leading authority for industrial rope access.
To obtain IRATA membership, companies are required to demonstrate documented rope access procedures, operate under the IRATA International Code of Practice (ICOP), follow the Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme (TACS), and meet strict audit, competency, and supervision standards.
RAS has grown to run experienced teams of more than 200 contractors and technicians across Levels 1, 2 and 3, all working within structured processes, proven methods, and strong internal oversight. It’s a natural step for us as we continue our mission to set a new standard of safety, training, team retention and unrivalled delivery in our industry and IRATA membership simply formalises the way we’ve operated for years.
Ongoing, membership gives our people access to the industry’s most respected training pathway, strengthens the systems we already follow on every project, and reinforces the high standard we hold ourselves to. For us, it’s about doing things properly, building a safer and more capable workforce, and giving customers complete confidence in the teams we send to site.
Setting a New Standard in a Sector That Rarely Takes This Path
While IRATA membership is common across sectors such as offshore energy, construction and industrial maintenance, it is not a formal requirement and is less widely adopted within the geotechnical rope sector.
Having grown through transparency, investment in our people, and quality work, this membership embodies our commitment to being the best in three key areas:
People and Culture
From day one, the company pursued a different growth model. Instead of treating technicians as interchangeable resources or sourcing any available contractor to work on projects, we created a strong internal culture focused on training, onboarding, retention, and professional development. Every technician is vetted and seen as a long‑term investment, someone who becomes part of a stable, high‑performing team rather than a short‑term hire.
IRATA membership reinforces and strengthens this commitment. Its framework requires that all rope access operations be supervised by a Level 3 technician, that all personnel hold valid IRATA qualifications, and that companies maintain rigorous internal auditing and safety controls. This aligns perfectly with the RAS’s founding principle that safer teams deliver better work, and that investing in skill, oversight, and structure is not a cost, it’s an operational advantage.
Industry‑Leading Plant, Equipment, and Capability
Where many companies scale by increasing headcount, RAS has scaled by improving capability. The business has spent heavily on specialist plant, geotechnical equipment, rope access technology, and modern systems that enhance safety, speed, and reliability on site.
These investments echo IRATA’s long‑standing emphasis on operational excellence and well‑supervised work at height - principles that have helped member companies worldwide operate safely and efficiently, even in demanding environments.
Advanced Planning, Operations, and HSQE Platforms
Behind every safe rope access operation sits robust planning, inspection, documentation, and audit processes. IRATA membership formalises this by requiring companies to operate under the ICOP and TACS frameworks. These outline how rope access activities should be planned, supervised, and executed, ensuring that every job follows consistent, safe systems of work.
For a company already known for strong internal systems (from advanced HSQE and field-service tracking to equipment lifecycle management) IRATA membership simply provides an additional layer of structure, external oversight, and third‑party accountability.
Why IRATA Membership Matters and What It Means for Clients
IRATA is globally recognised for producing the safest and most effective rope access technicians in the industry. For customers, this brings clear advantages:
Verified Safety Standards
IRATA members must follow strict operational, training, and procedural requirements, including regular internal audits and supervision by Level 3 technicians.
A Highly Skilled Workforce
IRATA’s structured training system ensures technicians maintain the highest levels of competence, reducing risk and delivering more consistent, reliable project outcomes.
Superior Project Delivery
IRATA’s independently verified safety record reflects the effectiveness of its standards. Combined with our investment in culture, equipment, and processes, clients can expect safer sites, fewer disruptions, and stronger project performance.
Clear Differentiation in the Market
Most geotechnical rope access companies are not IRATA members. Choosing to pursue membership shows our commitment to professionalism, safety, and operational maturity.
A Natural Step for a Company Built on Doing Things Properly
We’ve always believed rope access and geotechnical engineering should be done the right way: with the best people, the best equipment, and the best processes. IRATA membership reinforces the approach we’ve taken all along and signals to clients and partners that we hold ourselves to the highest global standards.
Speaking on the company’s approach, Founder and Director, Sean Hogg, commented:
“For us, becoming an IRATA member was a deliberate choice, not a necessity. It’s a massive achievement for us and recognition of the care, attention, and effort our team delivers every day.
Since launching in 2018, our approach has always been to invest in training, tools, and our team to ensure we deliver the best value, best quality outcomes whilst keeping our people safe. This membership demonstrates our commitment to hold ourselves to the highest standard in everything we do (onsite and in the back office), and we look forward to growing with the team at IRATA in the years to come.”
Always Driving Forward
With IRATA membership now in place, we are positioned to continue our rapid growth, supported by a workforce that is developing through the world’s most respected rope access training system and backed by global best practice.
In an industry where the easiest path is often the most tempting, RAS continues to choose the right path: one built on safety, structure, investment, and continual improvement.
And now, with IRATA International recognising that commitment, the company is ready to set a new benchmark for what geotechnical rope access can, and should, look like.
